Hunter McCormick is a contemporary ceramic artist based in Richmond, Virginia.

He earned a BFA in Ceramics from West Virginia University in 2017 and began pursuing his professional ceramic practice in Richmond in 2021. His work uses ceramic vessels and sculpture to explore identity, personal history, queer visibility, authenticity, and the pressure to conform to social expectations.

Hunter’s current practice combines wheel throwing with hand-built and distressed slab construction. This process creates a visual tension between controlled, familiar forms and fragmented surfaces, reflecting his interest in the ways people construct and perform identity.

Hunter is a studio artist at Shockoe Bottom Clay in Richmond, Virginia, where he continues to develop his ceramic practice.
